Vehicle Wrap Design That Actually Works

Most vehicle wrap problems are design problems. An installer can put graphics on any vehicle. What separates a wrap that blends into traffic from one that builds real brand recognition is the quality and strategic thinking behind the design.

At Canawrap, design is not an afterthought. It's the foundation of everything we do. Jonathan Glen, Canawrap's founder, has spent nearly two decades developing a design philosophy built specifically around what works for service vehicle branding in the real world.

What Makes a Vehicle Wrap Design Work?

A wrap design that works in the real world is built around a few core principles that most designers outside the vehicle wrap industry don't fully understand.

Readability at speed is the first and most important principle. A vehicle wrap is most often seen by people driving past at 50 to 80 kilometres per hour, or glancing at a parked vehicle from across the street. If the key information can't be absorbed in two seconds, the design has failed.

Coverage is the second principle. Too many service vehicles have basic decals on white panels that blend into the hundreds of other unbranded white vehicles on the road. The coverage level needs to be appropriate to the business goal and the competitive environment.

Brand consistency is the third principle. If the design on the vehicle doesn't match the website, uniforms, signage, and other marketing materials, the brand isn't building recognition - it's creating confusion.

The Wrap Design Process at Canawrap

Every design project starts with a review of your existing brand assets, including your logo, website, and marketing materials. We assess what's working, what needs to be adapted for a vehicle application, and whether the brand identity is strong enough to carry the wrap. If brand development is needed first, we'll have that conversation honestly and offer our brand identity design service as a first step.

Once we have a clear brief, we produce an initial concept design presented on a scaled vehicle template so you can see exactly how it will look on your specific vehicle. We work through a revision process until the design is right before anything goes to production.

Wrap Design FAQs

Is design included in the wrap price?
Design is either included or scoped separately depending on your existing brand assets and project complexity. We'll be clear about this upfront when you request a quote.

What if I already have a design from another designer?
We can work with supplied designs. We'll review for print-readiness, resolution, colour mode, and vehicle template accuracy before committing to production.

What file formats do you need for supplied designs?
Vector artwork in AI or EPS format is preferred. All artwork must be supplied at full size with fonts outlined and links embedded.

Can you design just the graphics without doing the installation?
Yes. Canawrap offers design-only services for clients who need print-ready vehicle wrap artwork.

How long does the design process take?
A typical wrap design from initial brief to approved design takes one to two weeks, depending on revision rounds.
